Peppol (Pan-European Public Procurement Online) is a set of standards and a network that lets businesses and governments exchange e-invoices and other documents across different systems and countries. Participants connect through certified access points, and documents route securely using standard identifiers. It is widely used for public procurement and increasingly for B2B invoicing.

Example

A supplier sends an invoice through its Peppol access point to a government buyer's Peppol ID.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need special software to use Peppol?

You need a Peppol access point — usually provided by your accounting or e-invoicing software vendor. You do not build the connection yourself; you subscribe to a service that provides it.

Is Peppol only for government contracts?

It started in public procurement, but B2B use is growing fast — some countries now route domestic B2B e-invoices through Peppol-based systems.
